Hey, just seen this post (after commenting when someone in the child sex abuse blogging community posted on shaving and having needed to remind myself of the horror of what Godson had said- blogging is a *great* cultural memory).
Thanks! I’d been so shocked (and triggered) by the response I’d only considered the woman’s response, not what the full counter-argument would be, so it was helpful to see the point about whether an expectation of mutual ‘buffness’ would have been justified by the ‘porn watching’ argument, and that someone thinking porn was (or could be) like real sex or real people was very very wrong.

Ahh – I breathed a sigh of relief as I reached the end of this piece and recognised the iniquitous power manipulations I have been on the receiving end of for 45 years.

It is a joy to read my internalised fury at the contempt I have been treated with whenever I demonstrate my own refusal to play dumb and fit in.

Thank you. You have cheered me with a reminder of the power of my intelligence and the spineless nature of those who would use it against me.
